I am an EXISTING customer.
I need to enter an upgrade key into an existing Backup for Workgroups Backup Server.
Backup for Workgroups is a client / server application - the license keys are
entered into the Server portion of the software. Backup for Workgroups License keys are additive.
When you enter your upgrade license key, it works with your existing keys, so do not delete any existing license keys.
- Go to the computer that is running the Backup for Workgroups - Backup Server
software. The upgrade process starts at the Backup Server.
- Download the BFW Setup program using the following link:
http://www.backup-for-workgroups.com/downloads/bfwsetup.exe
- When you run the BFW Setup program, the first screen is the license agreement

the phrase "Upgrade BFW Now." This indicates that BFW has detected
the presence of an existing installation and it will upgrade this
installation. If you DO NOT see the word Upgrade on the button,
please see the Troubleshooting section below. When ready, Press
the I Agree... button.

- The BFW Setup program is ready for you to enter the Upgrade License
key.

Enter the upgrade key from the email message you received when your order was processed. Note that if you purchased additional license keys, enter the upgrade key

If you choose not to update at this time, you can cancel the upgrade and your existing installation will be left as-is without any changes.

will not ask for any additional information.
If you only purchased an upgrade key, you are done. If you have additional keys proceed to the next step.

key, Exchange Message Restore addon, or additional client license keys, you can enter these keys now.

Add License button. Then repeat for each new license key.
- When you have
entered all of your license keys, press OK to close the dialog.
- If you
purchased any add-on keys, then go to the Clients panel.
- Select the client you
want to apply the add-on license to and press Modify. Then activate the add-on and
press OK to save your changes for that client account. Repeat if needed
until all add-on licenses have been applied.

I need to enter my new
Exchange Message Restore Addon license key.
To use your Exchange Message Restore Addon license, your Backup for

going to the Backup Server, running Backup for Workgroups Admin and go to

running. If the version is Version 1 thru 6.0, you will need to
upgrade to version 7 or higher BEFORE you can use the Exchange Message Restore Addon.

the current version.

below:
http://www.backup-for-workgroups.com/downloads/bfwsetup.exe
- Proceed through the Backup for Workgroups Setup program to setup the
Backup Server, access your Backup Storage and define your Backup Client
Accounts. Once you have Backup for Workgroups installed and
configured, it is still running in 30-day trial mode, so you need to get

I have purchased an
additional license of BFW and I need to enter this into my existing
installation.
In this case, you want to add another Backup Client to your existing BFW
installation; and you are NOT making any other changes.
Backup for Workgroups is a client / server application - the license keys are
entered into the Server portion of the software. Follow the steps below to
activate the license field and enter your license key(s).
- Go to the computer running the Backup for Workgroups Backup Server
Software (previously called the Data Repository Manager).
- If you are running an older copy of Backup for Workgroups, we recommend
that you upgrade to the current version BEFORE entering your new license
key. To upgrade your existing BFW installation, download the BFW Setup
file to the computer running your Backup Server, this file is located at:
http://www.backup-for-workgroups.com/downloads/bfwsetup.exe
- Run the BFW Setup program. It should automatically detect your
existing installation and it will upgrade the Backup for Workgroups program
and leave your existing Backup Client Accounts, settings and backup data
intact.
- Go to Tools>License. At the License dialog, you should see your
current BFW License Keys. Enter your new License Key at this time and
press Add. If the field in which you enter the License key is
inactive/greyed out, you can activate the license field by closing the
License dialog and then download and run the following program:
http://www.backup-for-workgroups.com/downloads/bfwlicensesetup.exe.

License button. Repeat this process for each new key you need to enter.

- If you have just entered new Backup Client license key(s), you are now ready to go to the Clients panel and create any new Backup
Client accounts that need to be established as a result of entering your new
license keys. Go to the new computer that you are adding to the Backup process,
download the Backup for Workgroups setup program and go through the wizard
to install the Backup Client. Using the account information that you
established at the Backup Server, make sure this new Backup Client can
connect to the Backup Server. If this new Backup Client is using any Add-on
licenses, make sure you activate them at this time. You are welcome to create custom Backup Sets for this new Backup Client.
We recommend that you keep the default Backup Set, called All Local Drives.
- If you have just entered additional Open File Addon license keys, you
need to go to the Backup Server and look at the Backup Client(s) that need
to use the additional Open File Addons, and "activate" the Open File Addon
for the appropriate Backup Client Accounts until you have assigned all of
the new Open File Addon licenses to Backup Clients. Be sure to save
your changes. The Backup Clients will start using the Open File Addon
capability at the start of their next backup.
