Preferences - Encryption Panel

Backup for Workgroups supports three different levels of encryption. You can choose between 256-bit AES, 56-bit Blowfish and file scrambling. The 256-bit AES and 56-bit Blowfish encryption methods are available to licensed users in US export friendly countries only.

After purchasing a license key, you can choose to switch encryption methods at any time without needing to re-install the Backup Server or restarting Client backups from scratch.

When you switch encryption methods, data backed up from that point forward will adhere to the new encryption style. Previous backup data will remain on the Backup Server in the encrypted format selected at that time the files were backed up.

To set or change the encryption method used by Backup for Workgroups

  1. Go to the computer running the Backup Server software.

  2. Run Backup for Workgroups.

  3. Choose Tools > Preferences > Encryption.

  4. Select the encryption method desired, if applicable. Please note that while you are running Backup for Workgroups under evaluation, only the scrambling encryption method is available.

  5. Press OK to save your settings.
